About the destination
Just a short flight from the Tanzanian mainland lies the idyllic Indian Ocean archipelago of Zanzibar. Renowned for intoxicating aromas of tropical spices, white sand beaches, and warm turquoise waters, the island's soul is undoubtedly Stone Town — a UNESCO World Heritage Site of narrow winding streets, Swahili traders, and the daily call to prayer. Beyond its rich Swahili and Arab history, Zanzibar offers world-class scuba diving, snorkelling, deep-sea fishing, and seasonal kitesurfing, plus endemic wildlife in the Jozani Forest. Nicknamed 'Spice Island,' Zanzibar's past as a hub of the slave and ivory trade lives on in landmarks like the Sultan's Palace. And for pop culture devotees, the island is famously the birthplace of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.
