About the destination
Lamu is a step back in time — there's only one vehicle on the island, and people get around on foot, by donkey, or aboard traditional dhows. An eight- mile deserted beach fronts the ocean side, backed by dunes, coconut and mango plantations, and small villages, while the Old Town's narrow winding paths reflect over a thousand years of Omani, Indian, and Portuguese trading influence. Shela, a short walk from Old Town, is the island's beloved beach community — a low-key refuge for those who value privacy, with a vibrant art scene, excellent food, and some of Kenya's most sought-after real estate.
