The Ellen Campus at Volcanoes National Park is the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund's world-class research and education centre — open daily to the public and one of the most meaningful stops on any Rwanda gorilla trekking itinerary. Visit state-of-the-art exhibits spanning nearly 60 years of gorilla conservation, browse the gift shop, and enjoy a meal at the Gorilla Café surrounded by the volcanic landscape.
Volcanoes National Park → Border Crossing & Lodge Transfer
After your campus visit, your guide will drive you to the Ugandan border. We recommend having an East Africa Tourist Visa ready, as this makes crossing immigration much quicker and smoother. Once across, you will head straight to your lodge in Uganda to settle in for the evening
Day 3 — Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Gorilla trekking in Uganda is widely regarded as one of the greatest wildlife experiences in the world. Your trek into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest begins with a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers, covering the gorilla family you'll track and the guidelines designed to protect both you and the gorillas. The trek itself varies in duration and terrain — but the moment you come face to face with a mountain gorilla family in the wild, the effort is instantly forgotten.
Day 4 — Kigali
About the destination
Rwanda — the Land of a Thousand Hills — is one of Africa's most remarkable travel destinations, known for its conservation leadership, mountain gorillas, and dramatic transformation over the past three decades. Kigali, the capital, is Africa's cleanest and most walkable city, with a vibrant food scene, contemporary art galleries, and the deeply moving Kigali Genocide Memorial. As the gateway to gorilla trekking in both Rwanda and Uganda, it is an essential stop on any East Africa wildlife itinerary.

When to go
This is a low season package. Gorilla trekking is available year-round in Bwindi, and Uganda's consistent temperatures of 24–30°C mean wildlife is always present. The driest and most comfortable trekking months are June to August and December to February. The wetter months (March–May and September–November) bring lush scenery, fewer visitors, and lower rates, though forest paths can be muddier and treks more demanding.
Getting there
Guests fly internationally into Kigali International Airport, Rwanda, where a VIP Meet & Greet service handles fast-track customs and luggage.
