About the destination
The Maasai Mara is widely regarded as Africa's greatest wildlife reserve, covering 1,510 km2 of sweeping savanna, riverine woodland, and forest set against the dramatic Siria escarpment. It is the northern extension of the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem and the annual stage for the Great Wildebeest Migration — one of nature's most extraordinary spectacles. With some of the highest predator densities on the continent and more than 286 identified bird species, the Mara is a paradise for game drives, walking safaris, and birdwatching. For authentic Maasai cultural immersion, it remains equally unmatched.
Where you stay
Masai Mara
Basecamp Masai Mara sits on a lush peninsula along the Talek River, bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve. Its 17 river-view tents — hidden under thatched roofs — each feature an en-suite bathroom, indoor and open-air safari showers, and a private terrace with views over the riverbed and the savannah. Authentic Maasai hosting, storytelling, and stargazing by the fire make this far more than a place to sleep.

When to go
The Maasai Mara offers excellent wildlife viewing year-round. Peak season (July–October) brings the Great Wildebeest Migration and dramatic Mara River crossings. The low season (April–June, November) means lush green landscapes, fewer visitors, and consistently strong predator sightings — outstanding value on a Maasai Mara safari.
Getting there
Guests fly from Nairobi Wilson Airport to Mara Ol Kiombo Airstrip on Airkenya (approx. 40 minutes). On arrival, a Landcruiser transfer provided by Basecamp Maasai Mara delivers guests to the camp in approximately 20 minutes. All flights and transfers are included in the package.
